The Smell of Brisket - Sunday March 29th, 2026

There’s something about BBQ in Texas. No matter who’s tending the pit, it always seems to come out fall‑off‑the‑bone, juicy, and downright delicious.

We enjoyed our Palm Sunday church service at Open Door Church in Burleson, TX this morning, and then stayed for their additional Overflow worship service.  With worship still lingering in the heart, we looked for a place to eat and found ourselves at Hard Eight BBQ Pit —a place where the smoke greets you before the door does, and the aroma alone feels like a welcome.

We stepped into the line, watching the pitmasters work with the kind of ease that only comes from years of tending fire. Mesquite smoke curled into the air like incense, and for a moment it felt like the whole place was wrapped in a warm, savory hug. Brisket, ribs, sausage links, chicken, jalapeño poppers—laid out like a feast prepared with joy.

We filled our plates (maybe a little too generously), found a table, and let the afternoon slow down around us. There’s a rugged charm to the place. The walls feel seasoned, the floors well‑traveled, and the whole building carries that “come as you are” spirit. No one’s in a rush. No one’s trying to impress. It’s just people enjoying good food and good company.  It’s loud, but not chaotic. Busy, but not rushed. It feels like Texas—bold, warm, and full of heart.

“Taste and see that the Lord is good.”

Sometimes that verse feels beautifully literal.
